Install Offsider
Offsider requires macOS 26 or later. Install the latest signed release with:
|
The installer downloads the release, verifies its signing identity and Gatekeeper approval,
installs ~/Applications/Offsider.app, and links ~/.local/bin/offsider. It needs no Xcode
or Homebrew. Add ~/.local/bin to your PATH if it is not already there.
Run the same command again to reinstall or upgrade. Quit Offsider first; the installer leaves running panels and jobs alone. Signed releases also support updates through the app’s Check for Updates menu item.
To choose different directories, pass absolute paths to the installer:
| \
You can read the installer before running it, or
download the signed release and move Offsider.app to your Applications folder
manually. The app includes the command at Offsider.app/Contents/Helpers/offsider.
Build from source
Install Xcode with Swift 6.2 or later and select it with xcode-select. From the project checkout:
The installer builds Offsider Dev in ~/Applications/Offsider Dev.app and links
~/.local/bin/offsider-dev. It has its own bundle ID, socket, and permissions, so a release
Offsider and its offsider command can run alongside it. Add ~/.local/bin to PATH if needed.
Use OFFSIDER_FLAVOR=release bin/install only when intentionally replacing the release app.
If you use mise, mise install installs development tools and mise run install builds and installs.
Xcode must already be installed.
Open your first panel
Leave the opening command attached to see events. Press Ctrl-C to detach without closing the
panel, then offsider attach my-panel to resume. If you built from source, use offsider-dev
instead. See the panel overview.
Upgrade a source build
Run mise run install to rebuild and install Offsider Dev. The installer stops only a running
Offsider Dev instance; the release app and its panels remain open. Development builds have no
automatic update feed. Signed releases use Offsider’s Sparkle feed and signing key.
